Warhammer

Yesterday I attended a Renaissance Faire. I was elated when I found vendor who sells steel arms and armor. Among the weapons he had displayed, there were Maces, War Hammers, Pole Arms, Lance Heads, Flails, Axes, Swords, and Daggers. After a difficult time of choosing between a Mace and chain mail, I ended up surprisingly picking a War Hammer. War Hammers date back to the 14th century. They were used to for close ranged combat. Their creation was a necessity because of the prevalence of thick platemail armor. A pick hammer could pierce the plate and peel parts of it off with the sharp beak like point or bash the metal into the enemy's own skin with the hammer head. Warhammers and Pickhammers differ in length, a War Hammer is typically only long enough for one hand and it meant to be used like a tomahawk, while a Pick Hammer is like pole arm version of the War Hammer and can be used to dismount cavalry.
